Thomas Pacimeo, 34, was killed in a secluded thatch of mangroves off the Courtney Campbell Parkway in Tampa – a popular spot for trysts between gay men. Thomas, who ran a lawn-care business, was stabbed multiple times and his throat was slit on June 5, 1998.
Christopher Bachmann, a drywall hanger from Plant City, robbed Thomas to feed a heroin habit, then killed him to eliminate the witness. Police linked Christopher to the murder because he used Thomas’ stolen credit cards. Investigators also found Thomas’ blood on Christopher’s shirt.
In 1987, Christopher was convicted of stabbing his brother, Timothy, to death. He pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 17 years in prison. He was released after serving only three years. He was freed early under a 1989 initiative, no longer in place, that was designed to ease prison crowding.
