Hartington, NE - September 18, 1917: Cora Hintz, teacher in a rural school seven miles southwest of the city , was shot and instantly killed at 9:30 AM by Frank Faust. After committing the crime, Frank ran to a cornfield about a half a mile from the school and committed suicide by shooting himself behind the right ear.
Cora was 18-years old living four miles east of Colderidge. Frank had been employed by Cora and had been attempting to force his attentions upon the girl. Sunday night, he called at the school house after school had been called, Cora left the room and the children heard four shots fired and saw the murderer run by the windows. From bits of the conversation the children overheard he had attempted to induce the girl to marry him.
A few years ago, Frank attempted suicide by taking chloroform because a young lady refused to marry him.
