Santiago Hernandez, 18, was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of Joaquin Perez, on January 25, 1995.  He was also charged with willful injury and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance.  Police believe Santiago was the one who fired the fatal shot.

Joaquin, 19, was shot in the head after he, Tommy Williams, 21, and Jermaine Davis, 1, went to 1501 W. 4th Street in Davenport, with the intention of stealing about $200 worth of marijuana.  Joaquin died at the hospital the following Monday after his family decided to remove him from life support.

Santiago was convicted of 2nd degree murder and is eligible for parole in July 2018.
