Albert Lara, Jr., 62, pleaded guilty to the May 15, 1980, murder of Jill Annette Peters, a 15-year-old Bellevue girl. Albert strangled the then-freshman from Marquette High School after abducting her on U.S. 52. Her body was found by a farmer in roadside weeds near Peosta. She had been reported missing the previous evening when she failed to return from jogging.
Jill's body was found by Clarence Turnis, rural Peosta farmer, at 11:00 AM when he was enroute to a farm field to work. The body was clad only in socks and was found among weeds along the farm lane just off Dubuque County Road, Y-21, one mile south of Peosta. A preliminary autopsy report indicated she was strangled but not sexually assaulted.
