Kasey Ackerman was 20 years old when he hosted a drug-laced party at his Brandon apartment on May 3, 2010.  It was then that Kasey told friends that he wanted to kill 26-year-old Robert Brewer, whom they had met at the mall and invited over that day.  Robert agreed to go to their apartment to take Xanax and Roxicodone, a potent painkiller.

That night, Robert went into Kasey’s room and passed out in a chair.  At about 2 a.m., Brendan Terry and Kasey walked into the bedroom and stabbed Robert multiple times in the neck and chest.  Next they took Robert to the bathroom and Kasey ordered him to remove his clothes.  Kasey told Robert to get into the bathtub and began kicking and hitting him.

When Robert didn’t die, Randy Allen Morris bought $3 in gasoline.  After he returned with the gasoline, Kasey noted Robert wasn’t dead, and stabbed him in the neck again.  They took Robert out of the bathtub and placed him on top of clear plastic on the bathroom floor before loading him into his own duffel bag.  Robert was still breathing.  The three men then used a dolly to carry Robert a few blocks away to a large trash bin at 305 E. Brandon Boulevard.  He was still alive when they set him on fire, and he was heard screaming by a witness.

Rosanna DiMauro, 41, Kasey’s then-girlfriend, and her 21-year-old son, David Link, both admitted to assisting the attackers after the killing.  Rosanna helped clean up the blood, and David helped carry Robert to the trash bin and also helped buy the $3 worth of gas used to set him on fire.  Both were sentenced to being accessories after the fact and spent some time in prison.

Kasey pleaded guilty to 1st degree murder and kidnapping.  He will spend the rest of his life in prison.  Randy pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder and kidnapping and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.  Brendan pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder and was sentenced 30 years in prison.
