First-degree murder charges were filed against three persons in the shooting death of a truck driver from Florida.  The three were held in Estes Park, CO, where they were charged with robbery following the hold-up of a grocery store.  They were arrested after a 25-mile chase.

David Denman, 22, Arvie Womack, 22, and Karen McGaughey, 20, all of Tyler, Texas, would be charged in the killing of 58-year old Walter Stanton at an I-80 rest stop near Roscoe, Nebraska.  Two 9 mm pistols and a 12-gauge shotgun were thrown from the car the three were riding in during the Colorado chase.  The weapons were recovered.

The three were working their way across the country robbing businesses and individuals.  While at the highway rest stop, they snuck up on Walter, who was sitting in the cab of his truck, possibly asleep.  They shot him through the truck's windshield.  Walter was robbed of his wallet and CB Radio.
