Even before police arrived at the murder scene, the suspects were in jail. About 4:30 p.m. on October 12, 1998, Miami police stopped Christopher Ashe, 32, and Dawn Marie Mann, 23, for a traffic violation. Police searched the car, found cocaine, and arrested the two.
An hour and a half later, Hollywood police answered a call to the apartment of Glenn Garmendia. He had been stabbed to death and was discovered by his wife. His 1991 gold Nissan was missing. After entering the car’s license plate number, police found that the car had already been impounded and the driver and passenger – Christopher and Dawn – were in custody. Police said they found a kitchen knife in the trunk of the Nissan and a bundle of clothes.
Debra Harris-Garmendia found her husband lying face down in their fourth-floor apartment on 3501 Jackson Street when she returned home from work that Monday afternoon. Debra told detectives that her husband, who was unemployed, left their apartment about 11:30 p.m. the previous night and did not return. The next morning, he called to tell her he would make it home in time to take her to work. That was the last time she spoke to him.
