Michael Grandon, 19, confessed to killing Lori Solie and her daughter, Tiara. On May 18, 2007, a neighbor discovered the brutal murders of the night before.
A barking dog led the neighbor to open the door of the apartment. Alisha Ochoa, Lorie Solie's 15-year old daughter, left the apartment with her boyfriend, Michael, that night. The couple withdrew $450 from Lori's bank account by an ATM machine and drove west in Lori's Ford Mustang. Both Michael and Alisha were charged with murder, but Alisha was acquitted of all charges.
Autopsy results revealed Tiara, 5, had been strangled and stabbed 17 times. Her mother, Lori, had been stabbed 14 times and beaten with a baseball bat. Both Lori and Tiara also had their throats cut.
In July 2012, a fellow inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary, Mohamed Abdulkadir, used a knife to fatally stab Michael. Mohamed believed Michael stole a TV, headphones, a CD player, clothing, prayer oils, and toiletries from his cell. When he spoke to Michael, Michael sucker-punched him in the face and then pulled a knife. Mohamed was able to gain control of the knife and stabbed Michael with it several times.
