A Sutherland man was sentenced to life in prison for the strangulation death of Janis Divis on March 4, 2004.  Irving Surber, 40, apologized in open court.  Janis's body was found east of the Sutherland Golf Course, near the Sutherland Reservoir on March 22, 2002, after being listed as a missing person for two weeks.  She had been strangled with a rope and her body dumped among the Cedar trees.  

Irving admitted involvement in the murder after taking a polygraph.  Co-defendant, Melissa Riley, 29, was also arrested for Janis's death.  Melissa suffers from schizophrenia and has an IQ of 55.
